Black Owned Beauty Brands - A Detailed Overlook

14/4/2021

Picture
For many years, a lot of major brands failed to be inclusive of all skin colours when it came to the Beauty Industry. While improvements have been made, we still have a long way to go to see adequate beauty representation for ALL women.

W Magazine says:
"As it stands now, Pat McGrath and Fenty Beauty are two of the seven Black-owned brands sold at Sephora—out of a whopping 290 brands total. That means black-owned beauty brands make up less than three percent of products sold at the retailer". Sephora have since taken part in "The 15 Percent Pledge", in which they pledged to give 15 percent of their shelf space to products from Black-owned brands at each store. A welcomed small step in the right direction!

Below I have listed some of my favourite Black Owned Beauty Brands!

Fenty

Fenty says:
"Rihanna was inspired to create Fenty Beauty after years of experimenting with the best-of-the-best in beauty—and still seeing a void in the industry for products that performed across all skin types and tones. She launched a makeup line “so that people everywhere would be included,” focusing on a wide range of traditionally hard-to-match skin tones, creating formulas that work for all skin types, and pinpointing universal shades."

Pat Mc Grath

Pat McGrath says:
"This is the golden age of makeup. PAT McGRATH LABS is my Golden Revolution. The entire planet is just as cosmetics obsessed as I’ve always been. Makeup is a movement. Makeup is mesmerizing. Makeup is major. Mantra-esque, three words have repeated over and over in my mind ever since I was young. Obsession. Inspiration. Addiction. Those words became my guiding principles, my manifesto as I brought this brand to life".
