Sol De Janeiro Records Massive Business Growth

29/12/2023

Sol de Janeiro saw a 174% boost in sales during the last six months of 2023. Most of this is due to the brand's increasing prominence on social media. The brand's body care and fragrances are frequently sold out, but are they worth the price? I tested two of their best-selling fragrance lines, and these are the results!

Beija Flor Elasti-Cream vs Brazilian Bum Bum Cream.
Beija Flor Elasti-Cream
Brazilian Bum Bum Cream

What is it?
The Beija Flor Elasti Cream is marketed as an elasticity-boosting, rich body cream that is clinically proven to boost collagen.

What are its benefits?
The body cream is packed with high-performing ingredients, with the hero being Cacay Oil, which is a gentle retinol alternative. It promises to deeply hydrate the skin and form a bounce-back network that supports cell turnover for visibly smooth and plump skin.

Price €48 for 240ml.

Fragrance
Beija Flor has the following scent notes:
Top: Pink Dragonfruit, Lychee Essence
Mid: Brazilian Jasmine, Ocean Air, Hibiscus
Dry: Sheer Vanilla, Sun Musk

What is it?
Infused with Brazil Nut Oil, to support the skin's natural ability to protect itself while giving it the glow of healthy-looking skin.

What are its benefits?
The body cream uses antioxidant-packed ingredients like Guaraná Extract and Açaí Oil help prevent environmental damage on your skin. Just like the Beja Flor it will also deeply hydrate your skin.

Price €48 for 240ml.

Fragrance
Brazilian Bum Bum has the following scent notes
Top: Pistachio, Almond
Mid: Heliotrope, Jasmine Petals
Dry: Vanilla, Salted Caramel, Sandalwood

My Opinion
The body cream absorbs rapidly, leaves no oily residue on the skin, and does not require you to stand around while it dries before you can get dressed. I have noticed an improvement in my skin's moisture, and a small amount goes a long way.

Beija Flor has a fruity flowery aroma that is nice but not overpowering. Brazilian Bum Bum Cream's perfume of pistachio, salted caramel, and vanilla will transport you to a tropical summer vacation, but if you dislike extremely sweet scents, this is not for you.

At this pricing point, I highly recommend trying the product in store before purchasing the full-size product. While I enjoy the scents, everyone is different. Going in-store will allow you to determine which scent suits you best, or if you like online shopping, try ordering the travel-size product first so you don't have as much to use up and will have spent less money if it doesn't suit your scent profile.

My Opinion

The Sol De Janeiro scent mists pair perfectly with the aforementioned body moisturisers. It can be applied on the skin, hair, or over clothing. Personally, I apply to my body immediately after moisturising, wait a few seconds, and then dress. The full-size bottles are large and will last for a long time, even with regular use. The sprays on their own are light and not overbearing. This would also make an excellent present for teenagers because it isn't as powerful as a traditional perfume but yet not so mild that the aroma wears off quickly. It's an ideal compromise.

Is Sol De Janeiro worth the price point? Let’s put it to a wear test!

As previously stated, I layer the body moisturiser and perfume spray together to achieve the most lasting power possible. When I do this, the aroma lasts for a very long time. It is vital to note that smells present and last differently on each individual, depending on their skin. This is very typical and demonstrates the importance of trying before buying.

In my experience, I could still smell the fragrance on my skin after 6 hours of use, without having to reapply. After that, the perfume began to fade to the point that I continued to smell it, but it was much softer. My family also noticed when I was wearing the Beija Flor Line and commented on how nice it smelled. I would use Beija Flor in the winter for its added hydration benefits and Brazilian Bum Bum Bum in the summer because the scent is simply summer in a jar.

I believe the pricing is reasonable given the scents' endurance, and for my own particular taste, I would absolutely consider repurchasing in the future.

Where to purchase?

There are many retailers to choose from if you are considering buying from the Sol De Janeiro Range. I’ve linked some of the most popular below.
