CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotions

No. 1 Dermatologist recommended moisturizer brand in the US
Here is my Review of CeraVe's Facial Moisturisers:

What is CeraVe?

In 2005, CeraVe’s dermatologists developed a line of skincare products enriched with a blend of three essential ceramides (ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II), fatty acids and other lipids to help repair and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier. Fast forward to 2020, CeraVe currently offers a full range of products delivering skincare for all, developed with the expertise of dermatologists. CeraVe is the affordable, accessible, dermatologist-recommended solution to hydrate, protect and replenish skin.

What is MVE Technology?

It is described as a revolutionary delivery system that was developed and named MultiVesicular Emulsion Technology (MVE), which releases hydrating ingredients over the course of 24 hours, layer by layer, to help keep skin soft all day long.

What are Ceramides?

Ceramides are lipids (oils) found naturally in skin and are essential in supporting the skin barrier and retaining moisture. All CeraVe products are enriched with ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II to help restore skin’s natural barrier.

AM

What does it do?

CeraVe AM Facial Moisturiser features:
  1. 3 essential ceramides
  2. Hydrating hyaluronic acid
  3. Soothing niacinamide
  4. SPF 25

This is a morning skincare multitasker. It uses patented MVE Delivery Technology to supply much-needed moisture and nourishment throughout the day. Offering Broad Spectrum sunscreen, this moisturiser with SPF 25 has InVisibleZinc™ Technology that spreads easily and evenly while leaving a residue-free clear finish. As this is a non-comedogenic moisturiser it won’t clog pores making it ideal for all skin types.

Key Benefits:

  • Provides Broad Spectrum SPF 25 sunscreen with InVisibleZinc™ Technology
  • MVE Technology: This patented delivery system continually releases moisturising ingredients for all day hydration
  • Ceramides: Essential for healthy skin, ceramides help restore and maintain the skin’s natural barrier
  • Hyaluronic acid: This ingredient attracts hydration to the skin’s surface and helps the skin retain moisture
  • Niacinamide: Helps the skin barrier and calms the skin
  • Non-comedogenic, allergy tested, oil-free and fragrance-free
  • Developed with dermatologists
  • Recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation

How to Apply?

  • Apply liberally to your face and neck in the morning.

My Opinion?

I have been using CeraVe's AM Moisturising lotion on and off for about 8 months now. I apply it in the morning onto cleansed skin. I find that Makeup wears very nicely over top and my skin feels nourished and hydrated for hours after application. It is unscented and I never noticed any irritation or breakouts on my skin from using it. I have dry skin so I'll always look out for ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid because it's one of the best additions in my Skincare Routine that really helps to combat the appearance my dry or at times dehydrated skin. Additionally, I also love that it contains Niacinamide which makes it a good go to for almost all skin types. Niacinamide increases the skin's resiliency, and improves texture by making pores appear smaller. It absorbs well, leaving my skin feeling really soft and plump without any sign of greasy residue. It also contains SPF 25 and as always it is imperative that we wear sunscreen daily. The sunscreen in this moisturiser will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. Overall it makes for a really good daytime moisturiser and at a price point of around €14 you really can't go wrong.

This is a rich yet lightweight night cream that also uses patented MVE Delivery Technology to deliver a steady stream of much-needed moisture throughout the night, and helps the skin hold on to it. Suitable for normal to dry skin types. It is specially formulated to protect the natural skin barrier.

How to Apply?

  • Apply liberally to your face and neck at Nighttime.

My Opinion?

I have been using CeraVe's PM Moisturising Lotion now for about 2 months. I found this version much harder to find in stores compared to the AM Moisturiser. I apply it at Nighttime onto cleansed skin and usually after a Serum. Technically this version can be used in the AM or PM but I would recommend layering an additional SPF on top if you are planning to use it during the day. Again, it's unscented, very hydrating and calming. Usually Night Creams tend to be thicker in consistency because they have a longer time to absorb etc, but this one is much more lightweight. Due to this, I was a bit more skeptical in the beginning as I was thrown off by using such a lightweight formula over night. But because I liked the AM version, I persevered and I'm glad that I did. Even though it is quickly absorbed, it still nourished my skin enough that there was a noticeable difference in the morning. Lately, I find myself using this formula more during the day and as I mentioned I'd just layer an SPF over top. Particularly If you struggle with Sensitive Skin, I think this option could suit you really well.
