Cleansing Milk

Last week, I got the chance to join a Clarins E-Conference to learn about their new Skincare Innovations and Upcoming Launches. I've been testing these products for over a week now, here's what I think!

My Skin Before

Before testing these products out my skin was definitely Dry and slightly Dehydrated. I had notable dry patches (after applying makeup) through my t-zone and on my chin. I was intrigued to see if these 3 products helped alleviate any of these problems so I used them each night consistently for 7 nights in a row. On four nights, I used these products to remove my makeup and on three nights I used them on clean skin. I tested the cleansers on both Water Resistant Mascara, CC Creams, Liquid Foundation, Powder Foundation and Liquid Lipsticks.

Total Cleansing Oil

I'm a big fan of doing a double cleanse, especially if I'm removing any makeup. I used the Total Cleansing Oil as my first cleanse before going in with the Velvet Cleansing Milk. 1-2 pumps is all I needed to break my makeup down, including my mascara. I tested this oil with a water resistant mascara and I didn't find the need to use an additional eye makeup remover which was great. It also worked well at removing all traces of a waterproof liquid lipstick. The consistency is very light, which I like as it's not a super greasy oil that would take ages to wash off and leave a residue behind. After using the oil before going in with the milk, my skin would feel clean and it definitely helped with any tightness caused by my dry skin type. I tend to keep my oil cleanse for night-time only so one bottle should last a good while.

Velvet Cleansing Milk

As I mentioned, I used the Velvet Cleansing Milk as my second cleanse at night and as my only cleansing product in the morning. I loved this product and it's definitely my favourite of the three. If like me, you have dry skin, then I highly recommend it. It's enriched with the Gentle Complex from Le Domaine Clarins (organic yellow gentian & organic lemon balm) which cleanses the skin while respecting skin microbiota. It left my skin feeling very soft, hydrated and nourished. The scent is light but luxurious and the combination of both cleansers has definitely improved the condition of my skin.

Soothing Toning Lotion

This was my first time trying out a Clarins Toner. After day 4, I liked it so much that I ordered the Clarins Hydrating Toning Lotion too. The Soothing Lotion smells like a Spa in a bottle and it definitely had a calming, soothing effect on my skin. If you have dry or sensitive skin then I think this will be a great option for you. The toner is alcohol free, rich in organic camomile and organic purple coneflower extracts that will soothe and comfort your skin. It's also enriched with the Clarins Microbiota Complex, which naturally rebalances the skin flora.

My Skin After

The combination of these three products has resulted in a noticeable difference in my overall skin texture and condition.

After 1st Use:

The first change I noticed was that my skin felt less tight than the night previous. I liked the oil but loved the milk. I also loved the scent, I hate going to bed wearing overpowering scented creams and this definitely didn't present that problem. Instead, it was light and relaxing.

After 3rd Use:

I decided to really test the oil and see how well it broke down any product on my skin. I tested it on Liquid and Powder Foundations as well as a CC Cream and it broke them down easily. Then I dialled it up a bit and tested it on water-resistant mascara and a waterproof liquid lipstick. The oil dissolved any traces of the liquid lipstick and removed the water-resistant mascara well. I then would go in with the Velvet Milk Cleanser. To check how well they worked, I then went in with a cotton pad and some micellar water just to see if I could pick up any trace of product left on my skin - there was none! Obviously, I was impressed!

After 1 Week:

After using these three products consistently for 1 week, I have no negatives to report. My skin feels more hydrated, nourished and is definitely in much better condition that it was before. I think the change in weather, definitely calls for a change in skincare every year and I think this combination fits perfectly into that category for me. I will continue to use these products and look forward to trying the Hydrating Lotion as well.

Learning more about Clarins!

I already knew Clarins were innovators in plant-based beauty but I really enjoyed hearing from their team during the skincare conference. It's clear that Clarins put a lot of thought and research into their formulas and I find it interesting that they continue to reinvent their products as plant science and technology advance. They call this process "Permanent Innovation". Clarins laboratories focus on working with natural origin or plant-based ingredients. Whether natural, plant-based or synthetic, all Clarins ingredients are selected based on a stringent set of assessments regarding safety, tolerance, and effectiveness, while their formulation experts work to determine the exact right concentration level for the active ingredient to deliver maximum results for the skin.

Hi Annette, it is recommended to use an oil as your first cleanse but overall it won't hugely matter if you're using it second as long as you wash it all off! x
